Scription Chronodox is a Beautiful, Printable, Freeform Weekly Planner for the New Year [DIY]

Scription Chronodox is a Beautiful, Printable, Freeform Weekly Planner for the New YearTypical planners and diaries force you into a confined grid when planning your day and taking notes. Scription Chronodex breaks that confinement by providing a freeform area to use text, drawings, or whatever to keep track of your days and get things done.

The idea of the Chronodex is a little complicated to understand at first because it does not look like a typical planner or diary (it can be used for either purpose). In the center of most pages you have this circle with wedges protruding from it that represent different times of the day. You can attach your notes to these wedges to assign it a specific time of day or just to mark when something happened. Every other page also provides an overview of the days of the week. The idea is that breaking out of the confinement of the typical grid will allow you the freedom to plan openly. You won't feel the need to force yourself into a rigid day-by-day format that puts your time in a box. Instead you can do whatever you want on the page, with the helpful guidance of the little circle of time in the middle of each page.

While the Chronodex has been designed for you and is ready-to-print, there is some assembly required. Binding it all together doesn't require much more than a few staples, but the full post over at Scription offers suggestions and instructions for making a much more beautiful end product. If you're looking for a better way to plan 2012, go check it out.

Lebanon rallying around team

By KENNY LAURIE

BEIRUT (AP) -Ali al-Saadi gave Lebanon a 1-0 lead against South Korea and the sectarian chants echoing across Cite Sportive stadium suddenly gave way to a more hopeful cheer.

The roars of "Minshan Allah, Libnan yallah" - "For God's Sake, Lebanon Come On" - filled the 60,000-seat stadium and grew louder as the team closed in on a historic 2-1 win over their favored Asian opponents.

After Lebanon completed the victory that put it on the verge of reaching the next qualifying round for the 2014 World Cup, tens of thousands of fans poured into the street waving the country's red and white flags with a green cedar in the middle.

Traffic came to a halt and it seemed for a moment as if the troubles that have plagued this country for decades had disappeared.

"Sports can do what religion and politics can't, gather the Lebanese people around a common thing," said Lebanese supporter Serge Mghames, who was in the crowd for the Nov. 15 match. "The national team changed the point of view to many football fans, and it united them for one goal, to participate in World Cup 2014.

"This was a very good step to help people to leave their political and religious views behind and watch their team without reverting to riots or gang wars."

Poised along the Middle East's most turbulent fault lines, Lebanon long has been the site of grinding conflicts and violence.

The country's population of 4 million is divided between 18 sects, including Sunni and Shiite Muslims, Christians and Druze, and every community is sensitive to anything that could tip the balance of power in a country with a grim history of sectarian strife.

This year, those tensions were laid bare as a U.N.-backed tribunal indicted four members of the Shiite militant group Hezbollah in the 2005 assassination of Rafik Hariri, a former prime minister and a prominent Sunni. Hezbollah has denied any role in the killing and has vowed never to turn over the suspects, but the conflict has divided the country.

Much of the trouble between the groups has spilled over into football. The Lebanese government banned fans from attending domestic league matches following Harriri's assassination in 2005, imposing the measure after local clubs aligned with different sectarian groups turned violent.

The ban was rescinded in October, but it devastated football in the country, with the domestic league all but collapsing and the national team drained of potential talent. The national team fell in the FIFA world rankings from 125 to as low as 178 before its recent resurgence.

"Without the fans, football is dead," said the general secretary of the Lebanese football federation Rahif Alameh, "Football had just (become an extension) of politics. Everything in Lebanon is politicized, the air we breathe is politicized."

But then the national team started winning.

Lebanon has risen to 111th in the rankings, with the 2-1 win over South Korea stretching its undefeated run to four games dating to a victory over the United Arab Emirates in September.

"The (rankings) are very generous and it puts us under more pressure to maintain it and improve it," said the team's German coach Theo Bucker, who took over in August after a stint with Zamalek in Egypt. "We will be trying to climb up further."

Bucker deserves much of the credit for the team's surprising rise. He managed to talk the country's two best players, Roda Antar and Youssef Mohammad, out of international retirement and set about changing the mentality of Lebanese football.

"When I was starting, trying to teach (professionalism), it was necessary to do more than just talk," Bucker said, "I told the players how to get into the complete living process of being a professional player. Then I looked in their eyes and they were blank. They didn't know what I was talking about. This was something no one had ever told them."

Bucker said he felt the mentality of the players began to change for the better during a training camp in Qatar just before the South Korea match.

"We played two friendly matches against Iraq and Thailand and for me that was where the breakthrough came because we played well and got good results," he said. "It was the first time the players thought, `Ah, this what Theo was talking about."'

Lebanon captain Antar has been at the heart of the team's resurgence and he believes that Bucker's confidence and professionalism have been the difference for Lebanon.

"He knows the mentality of the Lebanese players and he is always trying to motivate the players to show them that they can also play and it is showing on the pitch," Antar said. "In the dressing room and on the training ground, he is excellent. Two or three days before the game, he is always going around and telling the players to be professional."

The team's success has revived the country's interest in the sport and now fans are thinking the unthinkable. Not only could Lebanon reach the fourth round of qualifying for the first time, but maybe it could even reach the 2014 World Cup.

"If Lebanon qualifies for the World Cup, it will raise the status of football in Lebanon. It will improve our image," said Abbas Atwi, who scored the winning goal against South Korea, "Everyone is working toward the Lebanese team qualifying. This is a very big opportunity for us and hopefully it will happen. It will be very important for our country."

Lebanon only requires a point from its final group match against a winless UAE squad to advance. If it loses, Lebanon still would go through unless Kuwait manages to upset South Korea.

"There are no guarantees in football," Bucker told FIFA.com. "We can only guarantee that we will go about our job in a professional manner. We are in good form, but don't write off the Emirates."

Is Gremlins 3 in the Works?

Exclusive : Has Warner decided to do Gremlins 3!?

Something tells me those mischievous, scantily-dressed midnight snackers The Kardashians the Gremlins will be back before a Green Screen in the coming months.

If a domain renewal is anything to go by, ?Gremlins 3? could be creeping up on us.

Seems Warner Bros renewed Gremlins3.com last week, a domain they?ve owned since 2009.

Now that doesn?t mean the film is definitely happening, but it does suggest that for the past few years the water tower gang have been seriously considering putting Gizmo back on the front-line. And if I had to guess, I?d say the domain renewal reiterates their interest in doing a new ?Gremlins? film.

When will it happen? Anyone?s guess, but with strong brand name franchises like ?Mission : Impossible?, ?The Muppets? and ?Transformers? eating up large chunks of the multiplex receipts of late, I wouldn?t at all be surprised to discover it?s clandestinely in-development as we speak.

(The same date Warner Bros also renewed their registration for the still-possible ?Green Lantern? sequel at GreenLantern2.com and the inevitable ?Hangover 3? with TheHangover3.com.)

There?s a number of other rumoured Warner Bros sequels/prequels that the studio haven?t reserved domain names for ? i.e ?Blade Runner 2?, ?Lost Boys 4?, ?Police Academy 8?, ?Lethal Weapon 5?, ?The Goonies 2?- so it?d seem the studio isn?t in the business of ?buying up all the domains for possible future product?. Everything url-wise they?ve snapped up has either been announced or is in development by looks.

I dropped a contact at Warner Bros a line (the same contact who) about the ?Gremlins 3? find and whilst they said they?ve ?heard things? they had nothing solid to fill a return email with.

?Gremlins? director Joe Dante told us last year that he didn?t expect Warner Bros to call him with a request to shepherd a second sequel to his 1984 hit ? but he did expect the studio would soon do something with the property.

Here?s what Dante, who had a falling out with the studio a couple of years back, said :

I?m constantly asked ?why the hold up on Gremlins 3? And that?s because those films were such products of the technology at the time. The movie was more limited and created by technology. They were puppets. The storylines, then, were based around what we could do with the Gremlins. Now, of course, anything is possible but it becomes a little more difficult to hone it on what your storyline would be. First of all, I won?t be asked. Second of all, I wouldn?t bring back the original cast because it?s been too long ? the kids now would be familiar with the title, and familiar with Gizmo and Stripe, but as far as the actual [live-action] characters and story, they don?t know them.. it.

Dante?s probably correct about the original cast not being involved ? can?t imagine Warner would bother with Zach Gallighan and Phoebe Cates; they?d go for more noteworthy names ? and it?s a certainty that it?d be CGI now.

Again, no guarantee a third ?Gremlins? will happen, but seems it?s definitely something Warner are looking at. And that?s cool with me. Heck, I?m happy to know that if a new ?Ghostbusters? doesn?t happen, which quite frankly, I?m not convinced will happen, we might see that other 1984 franchise get a reprise.

Anyone keen for another ?Gremlins??

WD TV Live, Live Hub get an official iOS remote app, Vudu streaming and more

Western Digital is making sure its hardware can keep pace in the media streamer arms race, matching recent additions by Microsoft and Roku by issuing updates of its own. New services added to the WD TV Live and WD TV Live Hub boxes are Vudu (with HDX 1080p support, unlike the Xbox 360), SnagFilms, XOS College Sports, SEC Digital, Comedy Time and Watch Mojo. To help users navigate through all the extra content, it also recently rolled out its own official iOS remote app, although like Roku, there have already been a few unofficial options available as well. The WD TV remote is a free app and offers direct access to any of the services on your WD TV box and even multiplayer gaming provided all devices are on the same network. An Android version is said to be in the works, for now owners can check out all the details in the press release after the break or hit iTunes to download the app.

Are there differences in mortality among wine consumers and other alcoholic beverages?

Are there differences in mortality among wine consumers and other alcoholic beverages? [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 20-Dec-2011

Wine consumers, especially in comparison with spirits drinkers, have been shown to have higher levels of education and income, to consume a healthier diet, be more physically active, and have other characteristics that are associated with better health outcomes. However, epidemiologic studies have been inconsistent in showing that, after adjustment for all associated lifestyle factors, consumers of wine have lower risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality than do consumers of other beverages.

A study based on the long-term follow up of a group of older Americans concluded that the associated lifestyle habits and environmental factors of wine consumers largely explained their better health outcomes. Forum reviewers were concerned about some of the methodological approaches used, and believed that the data presented in the paper were inadequate to support such a conclusion. This was a small study, had only a single estimate of alcohol intake (at baseline but not throughout 20 years of follow up), and the authors may have over-adjusted for large differences in lifestyle factors between what they termed as "low-wine" and "high-wine" consumers. The study did confirm a lower mortality risk for alcohol consumers than for non-drinkers.

Experimental studies have clearly indicated that the polyphenols and other constituents that are present in wine and some beers have independent protective effects against most cardiovascular risk factors. Whether or not such advantages are seen among moderate drinkers of wine (or beer) in epidemiologic studies is difficult to determine, as comparisons are not being made between wine, beer, and spirits but between humans who consume one or other such beverage. In almost all populations, drinkers of a specific beverage differ in many ways other than just the type of beverage they consume.
