What to watch for Wednesday in politics (The Ticket)

The talk on Capitol Hill will focus on the payroll tax cut pact. GOP leadership surprised Washington on Monday evening by announcing it would propose extending the 2 percentage-point cut through the end of the year without trying to find a way to pay for it. The plan will be unveiled Wednesday and it could end up on President Obama's desk for signing as early as next week.

Obama will be in Milwaukee on Wednesday at the Master Lock Company where he will discuss "insourcing" jobs back to the United States. Following 12:40 p.m. CST remarks there, he will travel to Los Angeles to speak at two campaign events, including a $35,800-per-person dinner co-hosted by actor Will Ferrell.

Mitt Romney will be campaigning in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he will lead a roundtable on jobs at 5:30 p.m. EST and attend a welcome home rally at 6:15 p.m. EST. Michigan's primary is Feb. 28.

Rick Santorum campaigns in North Dakota, with events at 10 a.m. CST and 12:30 p.m. CST in Tioga and a 7 p.m. CST rally in Fargo. North Dakota is a March 6 Super Tuesday state.

And Newt Gingrich will wrap up his three-day swing through California with fundraisers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

There was nothing on Ron Paul schedule for Wednesday, but he does have a Twin Falls, Idaho, town hall set for Thursday. There also was nothing on Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson's Wednesday schedule.

And then there is this: John Anderson, who served 10 terms as a Republican congressman from Illinois and ran as an independent candidate for president in 1980, turns 90 Wednesday.
